The Megger DET4TC2 four-terminal ground resistance tester with professional ground testing kit measures earth ground resistance, soil resistivity, and ground voltage to evaluate the safety and integrity of electrical systems. The tester offers a choice of 2-, 3-, or 4- pole ground resistance testing. It can take measurements using the attached rod technique (ART), which tests on-site grounds without requiring the utility connection to be disconnected. It comes with a current clamp for measuring conductor current and electrode resistance and a voltage clamp for stakeless ground measurements, and when used with ART capability, the clamps can be used for taking fall of potential measurements. The clamps have two jaws that can accommodate a conductor up to 2.1″ (52 mm) in diameter. The tester has a maximum resistance input of 200,000 ohms for testing the resistivity of a range of soil types. The tester’s voltmeter displays the ground voltage during use, which helps increase operator safety. The operator can choose between 25V or 50V test voltage output, allowing the tester to be used in agricultural applications. For accurate readings in noisy environments, the tester can filter out ground voltage noise up to 40 volts (V) peak-to-peak. The DET4TC2 comes with a professional ground testing kit that includes two 164′ (50 m) leads and two 98′ (30 m) leads on retractable reels, four auger-style ground spikes, a tape measure, and a separate hard carry case for transporting and storing the kit. It also comes with one 49′ (15 m), two 33′ (10 m), and one 10′ (3 m) test leads, four ground stakes, four right-angle terminal adaptors, a field calibrator for measurement accuracy, and one voltage and one potential clamp. The tester’s liquid crystal display (LCD) is backlit for readability in low light.
The DET4TC2 meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category IV installations up to 100V, which covers measurements at the source of the low-voltage supply, such as electricity meters and overcurrent protection devices. In addition to the case provided for the professional ground testing kit, the tester comes in a hard polypropylene case for transport and storage. The case has an ingress protection rating of IP54, meaning it protects against the ingress of dust and splashing water, making it suitable for outdoor use. The DET4TC2 operates on eight 1.5V alkaline AA batteries (included). A low-battery indicator signals when the batteries need to be replaced.

Electrical test meters report electrical circuit properties, such as voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Available in handheld or benchtop form, they detect electrical problems in equipment, wiring, and power supplies. A variety of probes, clamps, and leads can be used to connect the meter to a circuit or device. Single-function meters, such as battery testers and voltage testers, measure one property of a circuit, and multimeters measure multiple properties. Electrical test meters display information either in analog form using a needle that moves on a calibrated scale, or in digital form using digits or a graphic representation on an LED screen. Meters have electrical properties that are to be measured and the anticipated range of results, and should have a rating that is higher than the maximum value of the anticipated range. An electrical test meter has multiple settings corresponding to potential ranges of values for the properties it can measure. A manual ranging meter requires the operator to flip through different settings until the correct range is reached. An autoranging meter cycles through range settings automatically until it reaches the correct range.
